It has 2,736,690 sq km land area and 30,200 sq km water area. In 1816, the United Provinces of the Rio Plata declared their independence from Spain. After Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay went their separate ways, the area that remained became Argentina. The country's population and culture were heavily shaped by immigrants from throughout Europe, but most particularly Italy and Spain, which provided the largest percentage of newcomers from 1860 to 1930. Up until about the mid-20th century, much of Argentina's history was dominated by periods of internal political conflict between Federalists and Unitarians and between civilian and military factions. The population of Argentina is approximately 40,677,348. It has a population growth rate 0.917%. Most of the Argentinians belong to nominally Roman Catholic religion. The official and most common language of those people is Spanish. It has 97% white people and rest of the 3% are Amerindian, or other non-white groups. In term of economy, Argentina has a relatively high GDP per capita in comparison to most other Caribbean nations. It has experienced solid growth since 2003, driven by a construction boom in hotels and housing that which should wind down in 2008. Tourism continues to dominate the economy, accounting for more than half of GDP. Argentina's gross domestic product (GDP) as of 2006 estimate is approximately $1.526 billion with GDP of $18,300 per capita. |
