| Poland, officially the Republic of Poland, is a country in Central Europe. Poland is bordered by Germany to the west; the Czech Republic and Slovakia to the south; Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania to the east; and the Baltic Sea and Kaliningrad Oblast, a Russian exclave, to the north. In terms of size, Poland has a total area of 312,679 sq km which is slightly smaller than New Mexico. It has 304,459 sq km land area and 8,220 sq km water area. Poland is an ancient nation that was conceived near the middle of the 10th century. Its golden age occurred in the 16th century. During the following century, the strengthening of the gentry and internal disorders weakened the nation. In a series of agreements between 1772 and 1795, Russia, Prussia, and Austria partitioned Poland amongst themselves. The population of Poland is approximately 38,500,696. The population density of it is 122/sq km. It has a population growth rate of -0.045%. Most of Poland's people belong to Roman Catholic religion. The official and most common language of those people is Polish. It has 96.7% of Polish and rests are German, Belarusian and Ukrainian people. Poland has pursued a policy of economic liberalization since 1990 and today stands out as a success story among transition economies.
